Mary's Story
I moved from Alameda in 1966. My mother died in 1967, I got married and had my first daughter all that same year. I had moved to the Smartsville area (near Lake Englebright) where my family had spent a lot of time during my childhood. We had 2 more daughters, built a house on land and started collecting. My husband and I both love "old things". We have collected things from our childhoods and beyond. I feel very connected to things from my past. So I collect things from my parents era, because they make me feel 'at home'. We have a ranch with cows, sheep and chickens. I sell eggs and lamb. My husband is now retired from the University of California, Davis. I have a sewing business,Hummingbird Sta...Expand for more
tion. I mostly sew for fire departments and I do repair on banners in shopping centers. My husband is also a retired Volunteer Firefighter/Chief. He collects fire trucks. We have 4 grandsons, 4 step-granddaughters and 1 great-grandson. One grandson just graduated from Army Boot Camp! We have lived in this community for more than 40 years, it is a wonderful home and community! We also have 5 cats and a Dalmatian. We volunteer for our local fire department and I am part of a non-profit group that maintains an historical exhibit of a model railroad that depicts the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad that ran in this county from 1876 to 1942. My father moved to Sacramento in 1968 or so. He died in 2004.
