Mary Catherine's Story
I was only at Fulton my senior year having transferred from Knoxville Catholic High. Wow, what a wonderful year I had!
Most everyone knew me as "Cathie" not Mary Catherine,.
I went into nurses training at U. T. Hospital after graduation. Decided to quit in my junior year and went to Knoxville Business College. Became a legal secretary then a paralegal. Worked for several years in a couple of law offices then started working in various attorney's offices to fill in while secretaries were on vacation. Finally took a permanent position at Bernstein, Doughterty & Susano,Attys.. Was their bookkeeper and also worked as Boone Daughter's secretary.. Left the firm in 1977 and went back to nursing school at St. Mary's Hospital. Completed my BSN Deegre at UT in 1989. During this time I worked for about 8 years in ICU/CCU, and a six months assignment in ER. Went back to ICU and CCU where I was relief charge RN on my shift for both units.. Finally decided to go into psychiatrict nursing and worked at Ridgeview Psychiatric Hospital in Oak Ridge for four years. diagnosis for my lung condition and went back to work in Gero and Adult Psych at East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in 2000. Did a number of travel nursing assignments for several years, Finally went back to work at Baptist in cardiac stepdown and some eight months later we transitioned to Mercy Health. i worked there for four years and finally took a leave of absence due to my husband's severe cardiac condition and haven't worked in a hospital setting since. I have done several private duty oncology cases since leaving Mercy Health but am currently not working. Would love to go back into behavioral health but only as a PRN or part time position. I love being a nurse and miss my patients! Had a horrible time with the suicide death of my beloved son on August 26, 2010, He was a medically retired Marine with severe knee injuries and PTSD. Now I'm going though a lengthy divorce (almost 3 years now) but look forward to finding a new job and moving on with my life. I would like to meet my soulmate because I don't seem to have ever had one. Looking forward to still accomplishing many new goals.
Now I'm a widow. I've learned that I'm not just a survivor but a thriver.
