Mary's Story

Life I am a graduate of Northwest University, with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology, and a minor in Children's Ministries. I have recently married, and am loving it, and of course my husband Nathan!! I am currently working at Audubon Elementary in Redmond as an Instructional Assistant working with children with developmental disabilities. I love my job, but i will be returning to school in Fall of 07 to continue my education and gain my Masters in Counseling, focusing specifically on families with children with mental, emotional, and physicla illness and disabilities. No plans currently for children, i have the desire to finish my education and get my dream job first. My husband works at Costco in Woodinville currently, and enjoys that, it keeps him busy! School High school was kind of a drag, i would definately never want to relive those years. Unfortunately people are young and impressionable during those years, and do things they would never do as an adult. I grew up overseas so i had a reality check that most of my peers missed out on, the fact that life did not revolve around me, and that getting less than an "A" was not the end of the world, although i did graduate with honors. I only hope that the people who i attended high school, minus a select few who were amazing people even then, have gotten that much needed reality check and have grown into beautiful people. Overall high school was not all bad, i have some great memories, but with the good there is always the bad, mainly revolving around bad decisions in dating relationships, and the pettiness of teenagers, and even adults who simply could not get past ...Expand for more
their judgmental ideals, which i hope has been corrected. It's sad that i went to a Christian School where i found that most of the students were bigger jerks and more unforgiven than most of my non-Christian friends, if i did not have a strong foundation in my faith and life experience to tell me that it was only that they didn't know better, i would have turned away. College I loved college, my friends, my roommates, my professors, they were all amazing; it was the hardest, the funnest, and the most amazing years of my life. I learned so much, and grew into the person that i am proud to be. Northwest was the best experience of my life, with professors who genuinely invest in the person that i was and am. People you really cared about me and helped me to succeed. Also the life experience i gained there, along with the relationships i built, i will never regret attending there, although there is always bad mixed in with the good, but in life you can't have one with out the other, at least not until we reach Heaven :) Workplace Currently i am working at Audubon Elementary with the children with developmental disabilities, as well as ELL students, LD students, and some kids that simply need a little extra help. I love what i do, i look forward to going to work in the morning, i'll be sad when it's time to move on, but excited for my next step on the road to being in the profession i have dreamed about since Jr High. It's amazing to me how God opens the right door at the right time. Although it was difficult waiting for that moment, but i am thankful that even in the waiting for His blessings he continues to bless me.
