Mary Frances's Story
My story -- hmmm. Well, 6 weeks after we graduated from LP, I married Wayne Lund. We had 3 daughters and were married 26 years when he died at age 46 from colon cancer. Within 6 months of his death I was in school and earned my BSN from the University of St Francis in Joliet. My nursing career was spent specializing in oncology, and I retired from the Robt H Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chicago in August 2014. Three years after Wayne's passing, Len and I were married and celebrated our 20th anniversary this year. Between us we have 6 children and 12 grandchildren. We travel to FL several times a year to visit the children and grandchildren who live there and enjoy stopping at the many Civil War ...Expand for more
battlefields throughout the South and Southeast. For a time we also did Civil War reenacting until various health issues prevented it. I enjoy cooking, gardening, playing the piano & keyboard, reading, needlework, crocheting...one of my favorite activities is to take my full size keyboard to area extended-care facilities and play for the residents. They love music from the 30's, 40's, and 50's -- the livelier the better! In recent years I've developed a passion for opera and have been able to experience performances at Chicago's Lyric Opera and also the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center in New York. Music was such a huge part of my life as a teen, and its importance has not diminished over the years.
