Mary's Story

School It's been a long 20 years, but at the same time I can't believe it has passed so quickly. My first 10 years after high school were spent going to school, working and getting use to married life and living away from my family. The second 10 years have been spent moving, moving and moving and finally winding up back in Alexandria, having a child and working with my husband, Danny Brown, in the Borden Milk Business. It's great to be close to family again and to regroup with old friends. It's been fun working on the reunion committee and finding out about our classmates and looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. A more detailed profile will be in the memory book, so be sure to mail yours in as soon as you can!! See ya in October. College I went back to school seven years after completing high school. I was a newly wed and did not have any children so all I did was study, study, study. I took summer classes and correspondence classes and finished in three years. I was the President of the ...Expand for more
Student National Education Society (SNEA/TSTA)for the University of Houston-Victoria and increased membership from 5 to over 100 in just one semester. I was voted Student-of-the-Year by my Professors which was a real honor. I also graduated Cum Laude which goes to show that studying does pay off. I am the youngest out of five children in my family and the first and only one to graduate from college so my family was there to see my get my diploma. I'm not bragging by any means. It's just very important for people to know that you are never too old to go back to school. My mom went back to school when she was 50 years old so that she could work because my father became seriously ill. And it paid off for her in so many ways. She became self-suffient after my father passed away and did not have to depend on anyone else to support her. So, if you are thinking about going back to school, don't let anyone talk you out of it. There are so may ways to get assistance to make your dream of completing college a reality.
