Mary's Story

I never finished at Marymount. I met my husband, Kirk, while there, and after we got married, we moved to Frankfurt, Germany where we lived for about 6 years. We left Germany with 4 children, Ken, Marie, Kirk,jr., and Kristopher.During that time, I sang in the international choir, the Mormon choir, and the Catholic choir. We lived in DC for about a year, then went to Ft. Rucker, Alabama where Kirk went to flight school. I volunteered at the church there, and acted a class social leader. After Kirk's graduation, we went to Stuttgart, Germany. Once again I became involved with the church, coached a girl's softball team, and kept 4 very active kids out of trouble. When we left Stuttgart, we came home to my beloved Kansas!! We added two more to the family, Margaret, and Michelle. The kids and I stayed put, while Kirk went to Korea, Desert Storm, and back to Korea. Our son, Kirk,Jr. joined the army, and went Kosovo, Iraq, and other war zones. He was decorated for saving the lives of several battle buddies, but suffered from PTSD. He ...Expand for more
died in December 4 years ago. As for the other children....Marie is married with 4 children, Kris is married and they are expecting their first child this September. Ken lives in North Carolina, and Margaret graduated from Ft. Hays State with a degree in English lit., and is now working with Child services at Ft. Riley. Michelle has one more semester with Ft. Hays State (doing it on line) and works as children's librarian in Council grove. my Dad died 2 years ago, and Mom is slowly fading away. She is in the nursing home in Council Grove, so i see her almost every day. I teach religious ed at Seven Dolors, am in the choir and cantor, help with the church decorations, knit prayer shawls, and am a co-captain of Circle 6 of the Catholic Women. I am a master 4-H volunteer, and have worked at the local, county, and state level of 4-H for 31 years. I am over weight, have bad knees, but love the life I live. I would love to connect with old classmates. somehow, life got busy, and lost touch with almost everyone. For that, I am sorry.
