Mary's Story
Life
The Hintons all live in Kansas. My parents and Jim live in Holyrood. I live in Hays, which is about 75 miles from them. Jim has worked in the oil fields for a number of years. He is a well pumper. He drives a lot of miles each day as he checks and maintains oil pumping units for other people. He's married and has one son who is planning to get married this next fall. My parents are retired. My dad still does mechanic work and helps Jim out sometimes. I think he even shoes a horse or two for some locals. My mom enjoys her yard and always has some f...Expand for more
lowers growing. They like attending auctions and recently bought a backhoe that Jim operates for them. I quit the horse racing stuff 15 years or so ago; about the same time I got a divorce. I have two boys, ages 16 & 17, from that marriage. I have worked as an accountant for the Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center for nearly 8 years. I have been serving in the AmeriCorps program for over 2 years. It is a national service organization. It's the domestic version of the PeaceCorps. The PeaceCorps is overseas and the AmeriCorps is in the states.
