Mary's Story
Life
Graduated Harbor Springs HS 1982. Went to Eastern Mich. University one year. Restless already and wanted the adventure of basic military training so enlisted in the US Air Force in January 1984..only my parents knew about it(not even my siblings) up until about a week before I left for Lackland AFB in San Antonio Tx. (I didn't want anyone's opinion or trying to talk me out of it.) It was a grand adventure and highly recommended! After two weeks at home after training, I went to my first assignment in Biloxi Mississippi where I was assigned to the medical center as a medic E-3. I worked on a medical/surgical floor for two years then in the labor and delivery unit for another two. While stationed here I went on special assignments to Fort Hood TX and Nocton Hall, England. Not to mention hurricane Elena. I met my husband during my last year in Biloxi. He had an assignment to Fairchild AFB in Spokane Wa, at the USAF Survival School so....I "got out" and we married. 1988 We went to Washington state where I went to nursing school and worked in a local hospital. Our son was born in 1991 during the last week of my junior year. We got orders to England a few months later, so that was the end of school and beginning of stay-at-home mom. We went to England January 1992. while there, we visited London as often as possible and went on holiday to Mallorca, Spain for a week. From England we went to Germany. While there, we visited Paris and also historic concentration camp areas, castles and the Alps. Then Uncle Sam moved us to Texas in 1995. Upon my return to the USA, my core nursing classes were outdated so I had to start over. ...Expand for more
I decided to wait until my son was older before committing to full time school. My husband retired from the AF in 1997. We then owned and operated a swimming pool maintenance business in San Antonio called "Aquapoolco" for 8 years. Logan and I were very involved in martial arts, TaeKwonDo. He earned a Black belt after five years' training and I earned Red after three years. I quit training when I started nursing school in 2002. When I finally graduated from nursing school in 2004, I did it with a bang. I was valedictorian!!! A few months after graduation, we moved to Maine to get out of the city and back up north. We have been living in Presque Isle, Maine for almost three years. (Look it up, we are WAY up here).... I worked at a local hospital here for two years (they paid to move us from Texas). I once again became restless for adventure and decided to be a travel nurse. Hubby Brett is now "Mr. Mom" for our now 16 year old son, Logan. I am presently traveling within 100 miles of home and work six days on/eight days off on a medical/surgical floor. I am never at a loss for adventure.......Every three months, I decide to stay where I am or try another hospital.
We spend our free time riding our ATV's around the beautiful country up here. There are thousands of miles of trails. Moose are plentiful and awesome to watch !! We enjoy kayaking on the many lakes in the area. Winters bring skiing and snowshoeing...Ahhhhhh Logan and I love to play Nintendo's Guitar Hero !!
I hope this finds all my "old friends" in good health and happiness. PLEASE contact me. I would love nothing more than to reconnect with you.
