Mary-Jo Cantwell:

CLASS OF 1966
Panorama city, CA

Mary-Jo's Story

Life Hello Everyone! Like so many of us, I've done the usual -- college, work, marriage, divorce. No children, though, except my two kitties. Completed a BA in Psych and MA in Career Counseling. For the past 25 years, have worked in higher education or as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. Lived on the CA Central Coast (Santa Ynez Valley and San Luis Obispo area) late 70's to late 80's. Remarried in 1987 -- to Tom Cantwell, whose career in high tech took us back to Southern CA. In '96, we moved to the Silicon Forest (Bellevue, WA). Four years later, we made a pre-retirement move here to the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. We are just across the Strait from Victoria, BC. Here in Sequim, we get less rainfall than Los Angeles! We jokingly refer to Sequim as the northernmost California city as there are so many CA transplants here. Tom has traded his career in high tech for real estate, although real estate IS very high tech these days. He is the broker for the Windermere office here. His office overlooks the first tee and the ninth green of SunLand Golf Course, so when he isn't on the course, he can look at it. Recently, Tom informed me that he plans to work until he's 70. I guess he doesn't want to give up that corner office! As for me, I continue to work in voc rehab. However, my practice now is limited to what I love best -- working with disabled veterans. I do contract work for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the folks there are great. I maintain a little...Expand for more
office here in Sequim. However, thanks to the US Navy, most of my work is out of Bremerton. So, that puts me meeting with veterans in my Silverdale office a couple of times a week. Other than work, I keep busy with various home projects and gardening. Tom's work and visits from friends and family tend to keep our social calendar rather full. I still do a little sewing and alwys enjoy a good book. Once in a while I add a little something to my collection of Limoges, leading Tom to dub my favorite website Evil-bay. I do bemoan the fact that I am a Liberal living in a hotbed of Conservatives, and greatly appreciate Doug Thompson and his capitolhillblue site. All of my sibs are St. Gen's alums. My brother, Steve, lives in Oregon. My four younger sisters still live in CA -- Palmdale, Saugus, Paso Robles. Mom and Dad (now 81) sold their retirement home in the Sierras two years ago and moved to Ventura, near the community college. We get down for visits two or three times a year, and Mom and Dad usually head our way Spring and Fall. Last time, they decided to take the train and loved it. Fall of 2005, they welcomed a great granddaugter and then a great grandson to the family. Life is good. Life goes on. I would enjoy hearing from any of you and hope to see you at our 40th. Tony, if you're reading this, I still have that Rabbit convertible. It now has 450,000 miles on it. (Oops - update - thanks to a cracked block, it's in the shop for a replacement engine.)
