Life!
Who am I? Sometimes, I have no idea. I have been lots of things to many people. A funny kid with pig tails, who loved to swing on the swings and jump rope.
A cute kid who discovered having fun was wonderful
A wild teenager who loved boys and fast cars.
A loving wife and mother.
A widow at an early age.
A single person, back out in the dating scene, scary!
Now an old gal with gray hair. What happened?
I spent a lot of time living in other places, Memphis, TN; San Juan, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles, CA. then back to OKC. Built a house on a lake in Hot Springs, AR. lived there 13 years. My father died in 1983, my mother in 1994, my sister in 2008. Lived in Plano, TX for a while before moving to Austin to be close to my daughter and her family.
Not much to talk about, I am still kicking around and am now 74 years old! Where did the years go? I don't feel that old. (well, maybe sometimes). I live in an apartment in Austin for Seniors. I go see my daughter as often as possible or out to see Sally Blue, for friendship and food!! I play a lot of "Hand and Foot" with the many friends I have made in this complex. We have Pot Luck dinners once a month and a morning "brunch" on Monday.
My son has 4 children, oldest is married, in the Navy and has 2 boys. He has been deployed on a Carrier where he is an Air Traffic Controller. The next one is a girl who is 23. and works at an airport. The 2 youngest girls are still in high school and are in a competative cheerleading group. One just turned 16 and got a drivers license.
Hard to believe that my son is now elegible to retire from the FAA, but will not until the last 2 girls are out of high school. . He also has a 6 bedroom house to keep up!! My daughter-in-law is an RN in a cardiac care unit in a hospital in San Diego.
My daughter is still a "stay at home mom". My son-in-law has his own business and is doing very well. They also raise minature donkeys and pygmy goats as a hobby. They have added a "fainting goat" to their list of "pets". Weird animal!!...Expand for more
There are 3 toy terriers, a Yorky and a border collie also!! There are 3 girls and the oldest graduated from college 2 years ago with a degree in Business and Accounting. She has a great job! Middle one graduated from college last May with a degree in Education and Math and Photography. She will be teaching 8th and 9th grade math this next fall. The youngest wants to be a model and is tall and beautiful. She has already appeared in "Friday Night Lights" for 2 years, which is filmed here in Austin. She has been a 'presenter' on the DOVE awards, but most of her appearances were blocked out for commercials!! That was a mistake!
I remain friends with my best friend from 7th grade, nearly 60+ years of friendship. I am also in touch with many of my classmates from high school, thanks to Classmates and my high school web page.
I have been a widow since 1971, raising my 2 children alone. They have turned out very well to have been raised by a "single mom". When I hear about kids that are in trouble, and they blame it on "broken homes", I have to blame it on something else, it is very possible to raise children alone and have them do great in life. They just have to be drugged!! Drug to school; drug to church; drug to the homes of relatives for happy gatherings; drug behind the woodshed when they misbehave. Life is not a bowl of cherries!!
I have had numerous old classmates contact me and I love it!!
I like to relax by being with friends. Maybe a glass of wine or a bit of Bailey's Irish Cream! I read a lot and watch TV.
Guess some of my oldest friends I met when I was in second grade at Cleveland Grade School in OKC. Still hear from some of them, now that was a LONG time ago. My best friend from 7th grade lives here in Austin and we get together often.
I have many memories about all the wonderful years I went to school in OKC. One I remember is when a boy friend tried to teach me to "Speed Shift" wonder if he remembers that fiasco? How many new clutches did you put in? Huh?
