Mary Lou's Story
After graduating from EFHS in 1958, I left VT to go to Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. I earned my bachelor's degree in 1962. What have I been up to since then?
MY FAMILY:
*Married in 1962 - single since 1990
*Daughter Karen and son-in-law Redmond
Grigg live in Chapel Hill, NC.
*One granddaughter, Sadie Grigg, age 4;
born on 10-20-05.
*Sister, Sylvia Nichols Allen (EFHS
class of 1965), lives with her husband
Mich in Essex Junction, VT.
*Brother David Nichols (EFHS class of
1966) lives with his wife Diane in
Charlotte, VT.
MY WORK HISTORY:
*1962-63 - Case Worker, Wake County
Dept.of Social Services, Raleigh, NC
*1964-66 - Social Studies Teacher
(7th & 8th grades), Clemson, SC
*1976-2004 - Teacher of Mathematics

Schools, Norfolk, VA
*Retired in 2004
MY HOBBIES/INTERESTS:
*Music (still love to sing)
*Sports (it's great living in ACC
country, especially for the collegiate
basketball)
*Bird and Nature Watching: I've had fun

back yard.
*Travel - I have been in 49 of the 50
states and hope to add Alaska to my
list in the not-too-distant future.
I've also travelled to Russia, Western
Europe, Ireland and Great Britain.
MY HOME:
I lived in Norfolk, VA. for 40 years.
Then, in 2006, I moved to NC to be
close to my daughter and her family.
I have a lovely place in the country
with 2.25 acres of land and a two-
story Dutch barn. I'm surrounded by
a number of dairy farms - it almost
like being back in Vermont.
MY VERMONT HERITAGE:
I love living in North Carolina, but
I'm also very proud of my family and
my Vermont heritage. I usually travel
back to Vermont for a week or so in
the summer. Besides spending time
with my sister and brother, I love
getting together with "old friends"
from high school. In June of 2009, I
got to visit with Jeannette (Benoit)
Stewart, Franny (Manahan) Raymond,
Judy (Skoll) May, and Carolyn (Gates)
Perley.
