Mary's Story

Mary is from Birmingham, Alabama. She is divorced. Her schools include Wenonah High School. She later attended The University of New Mexico Department of Spanish and Portuguese (General Honors, English, Religious Studies), University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. TV shows Mary likes include The Rachel Maddow Show. More about Mary:"I am now a retired and disabled professional secretary; ordained United Methodist minister; Board Certified Chaplain. During the past five years I have been a resident of the Albuquerque Grand Senior Living facility, in the assisted living section. After a medical hiatus from the secretarial field, I enrolled as a first-time college student at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, graduating in May 1988. I was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, with concentration in Creative Writing; Religious Studies, and magna cum laude in General Honors. Following completion of my under-graduate studies, I attended the Iliff School of Theology, Denver, Colorado. After being awarded a Fund for Theological Studies fellowship, my third year of seminary was spent as an urban ministry intern in Boston, Massachusetts. I graduated from Iliff in May 1992, with a Master of Divinit...Expand for more
y degree, and was later ordained a Deacon in the Rocky Mountain Conference of the United Methodist Church. After a two-year appointment as pastor of the Goode Centennial United Methodist Church, Commerce City, Colorado, my health declined and I was given disability status. As my health experienced a slight improvement, I had the opportunity to enroll in a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program at the Presbyterian Hospital, Albuquerque. Upon completion of the course (August 1995-August 1996), I was fortunate to serve as a chaplain until October 2004, at which time a cardiovascular accident (stroke) rendered me unable to work further. Meanwhile, opportunities arose whereby I was able to conduct chaplaincy services from time to time. In April 2005, at a Convention of the Association of Professional Chaplains here in Albuquerque, the organization awarded me Board Certification status. My philosophy is rooted in my spiritual world view: that we are all products of God's creative plan. All humans deserve respect of their dignity, opinions, biological, social. cultural, and religious differences. The care of His lower creatures are incumbent upon us. I will continue this update as health permits.".
