James's Story
EXCERPT from a "where I've been" letter...
..... I never cared much for the name Jim! Ha - my dad is Jim (I'm Jr.) & 2 of my cousins are Jims - my family wasn't very imaginative. I started using James as soon as I got to college. Anyway, It's great to hear from & about you. The years sure have rolled by! ....
I was married to Rebecca from '71 to '89 and we had 1 son & 2 daughters in Ojai, CA. My son Ben & daughter Elizabeth both now work with me and my youngest daughter Emily is a mortgage broker 30 miles away (in Ojai still). Then I bounced around for 10 years; another marriage, stepchildren & divorce. I lived on both coasts - LA & NY, working in both the music industry & in real estate, design & construction consulting (my main career path). I had studied architecture for a couple years after HS, quit & worked as a contractor, then finally got a BSBA from University of Redlands. I took a position w/ a Japanese mul...Expand for more
tinational as their North American director of engineering & construction. They drove me crazy, lasted only a year, but then became their consultant which lead to my work with restaurant & retail chains.
9-11 was devastating to our consulting business. Besides travel being locked down, all the uncertainty held-up our clients' expansion plans ¿ consultants were the first to go! So I went back into the "working" side of the design-build business, settled in Santa Barbara & remarried in '04. We design & remodel locally & do occasional projects from the Bay area to San Diego. The consulting firm has picked up as well & we're working w/ a few chains again - but thankfully, the local business enables me to limit travel somewhat (& have a life).
I'll keep an eye on the reunion plans - I didn't actually graduate from Blackford, you know - Dewey, Shaw & I all got expelled the first of May. I graduated from Saratoga.
