Mary's Story
It doesn't seem possible that I am in my 50's!!!!!!! If you went to school with me then you are in your 50's too !! Where has the time gone???? There are so many memories - good and bad from my high school days - band, skipping school to be with my boyfriend, riding on the back of motorcycles and learning how to ride 1 myself, hanging out with friends, going to the new Jack-in-the-Box on shephard and 20th st, having my first pizza, (these are the good ones by the way). Bad ones - getting caught skipping school, detention, feeling so self conscious about everything (how i looked, what others thought, etc), and the overall confusion about sex - how far was ok to go, what would others think of me, etc. Very confused times for me in that respect.
I married the boy I dated in high school, Rick Carter, had 2 beautiful and wonderful daughters - Julie and Deborah, and we divorced after 7 years. Got married and divorced after 11 years from husband #2. Current relationship is not an ordinary one - David and I met and lived together as a couple for 6 yrs but we had a lot of problems, we decided to break up but he did'nt move out - so - for the past 6 years we have lived as roommates and now we get along MUCH better. We each have our own life but we share a friendship (and the bills - lol).
My daughters have been the inspiration of my life - they both are beautiful, wonderful, and talented and very much opposite each other. Julie has always been the responsible one - strong willed, head strong, independent and stubborn. She is married and the mother of her own adorable daughters - Avery and Audrey. They live just north of Dallas and I don't get to see them as much as I would like.
Deborah is more the free -spirited one. She's easy going, laid back - I describ...Expand for more
e her as my hippie child. she has traveled around the world - traveled thru Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, all over Europe. Studied and lived with a family in Spain when in college and lived a year in S. Korea teaching.
I am proud that I am related to 2 people that I admire more than anyone I know.
My working life has been just as diverse as my private life. I went to a business college after being married and having 2 babies. I received a certification in drafting and worked for Citgo doing geological/geophysical drafting. That lasted til the bust of the oil companies in the early 80"s. I worked in dept stores or fast food and took some college courses in pysch. It was during this time that I met husband 2 who worked in psych. Through his contacts, I was able to get a job in a psych hospital as a psych tech and then after a few years we both went back to school and got nursing degrees. I have worked as a psych nures since. It is very challenging but rewarding. I have worked with all age groups but my specialty is with children (5 - 12 yrs old).
I have a dog named Scooter who is a genetic misfit - dachsand and basset hound mix. He looks like a weiner dog on steroids.
I have 4 wheeler (not a huge one - just a 250cc) that I like to take out on the trails and dunes. It is so much fun. I also like to fish - mainly in lakes or streams.
I was into to bowling alot but have taken the last few years off (burn-out).
I feel very fortunate - We don't always know how the choices we make along the way will play out - we depend on faith and luck. I hope everyone who takes the time to read this has also experienced a life full of love and happiness. It's not over - and as Bill Murrey says in "Where the Buffaloe Roam" - "it still hasn't gotten weird enough for me".
