Mary's Story

Life Well, I moved to Virginia in 1977, taught one year, worked as a puppeteer, and then proceeded to the Presbyterian School of Christian Education in Richmond where I earned my MA degree in Education. In 1983, I moved to The Eastern Shore of Virginia (got to be the slowest place on earth!), taught one year, failed, and got married. Our marriage has gone on for 17 years, not real rosy, lots of lies. Basically, it has been east meets west and not meshing well. We have grown apart. I miss the progressive society of Calif. I am currently teaching first grade for Accomack Co, Va. but seeking employment in a more progressive, Reggio Emilia inspired school in New England. I do have one daughter, Laura, who's almost 13. She's the joy of my life! Sometimes, as we approach teena...Expand for more
gehood, the annoyance! I don't have many friends around here. All mine seem to be scattered. I have fond memories of Lompoc. I was glad to make it to the 92 reunion. Hope to hear from some of you! Update....wow, it has been 4 years since I wrote that. Well, I moved to Mechanicsville, near Richmond. My husband, Kenny, stayed in Cape Charles. We lived separately but never divorced. Ii worked Head Start with King and Queen Co. and now am teaching an MR Adaptive class with Richmond Public Schools. I am also almost done with my endorsement classes through VCU. My daughter is 17. My husband died suddenly last year. So, it is just me and Laura. We are best friends. I hate to think of the future "Empty Nest" syndrome approaching!!! Just looking to reconnect with old friends.....

I think American women should begin wearing hijab as a response to Trump's anti-Muslim remarks!
I had a student tell me you couldn't make a miniature bear out of gingham. So, that night I made this!
Surprised old friend and mentor at Gayton Kirk Presbyterian dressed as a clown, coming from the Reid Health Fair.
A tired clown at the end of the day......
This kale came a long way to Virginia for me to eat. So why do I get goose bumps seeing it was grown in Santa Maria? I've been Va since 77, but Calif. is still home for me. So many good memories of Santa Maria!
Leaded bowl or unleaded bowl: that is the question?
