Mary's Story
Life
Hi,
I am happy you stoped by. I would love to see you and visit with
you, but unfortunately I died August 12, 2000.
My husband has included excerpts from my life which follow.
As many of you know, Mary spent her formative years in Cerrillos, NM
growing up in a converted railroad depot, which was surrounded by
fruit trees. Her favorite pastimes were pulling the boards for the
railroad, with her fatherÃÂs supervision, and snitching cigarettes so
she could feel grown up like her father.
At about the age of 2 she broke her leg and wore a cast and or brace
for multiple years. She would stuff sand down the cast so the Dr.
would have to remove it and she could scratch her leg. As a result,
the bones didnÃÂt knit properly, and she spent the rest of her life
with a painful leg that didnÃÂt work very well.
She loved to attend reunions and see her friends from Sandia. When
they decided to hold reunions only every 5 years mary was unhappy
because she was afraid she would miss seeing some of her friends who
would die in the interim. Now she will miss seeing those who are
alive, but maybe those who have passed on are having a reunion of
their own in heaven.
When she was 12 she was involved in a serious auto accident that left
her with a bad shoulder, hip and a permanently bent elbow. All of
which caused her pain and led to arthritis in the last several years
of her life.
Mary loved sports, although she couldnÃÂt participate in them much.
In her yearbook she said her happiest memory was when Sandia took
State in Basketball. She and her mother had box seats at the Dukes
games and she kept up with many of the players after they left
Albuquerque.
Mary worked for several years as a proof machine operator at banks ...Expand for more
in
Dallas, TX and Albuquerque. She also ran a wrap salon for weight
loss, was a Waitress at Goodies, a Mary Kay representative and a
receptionist at a beauty shop.
My work caused us to move every 2 to 4 years so we got to see much of
the U.S. going from New Mexico to Massachusetts to California and
finally to Arizona.
When we moved to AZ, she saw that one of the community colleges was
offering a pharmacy technician program. She enrolled and worked
harder than I have ever seen her work before getting straight As.
After graduation, she took the exam and became the first and probably
only nationally certified pharmacy technician, or a CPhT from her
school. She had dificulty with computers and was unable to learn the
custom programs used by different pharmacies fast enough to remain
employed. She studied her continuing education to maintain
her certification and learn as much as she could about medications.
Mary was ill most of out time together. The last year was the worst
with insertion of a stint for her heart, a toe operation, a broken
foot, pancreatitis and finally Pneumonia.
The last few months of her life, Mary became interested in the Tim
Lehay Left Behind series of books, which dramatize his interpretation
of the end times in the Bible. In fact the night before she died,
she read one of these books until about 2 AM when I told her it was
time to turn out the lights and go to sleep. She seemed to be closer
to God in the last several months of her life than she had been at
any other time I knew of.
Some of Mary's ashes have been spread in places she loved in Albuquerque. That includes the Sandia high school grounds and Sandia Mountain. She loved Hawaii, and The remainder of her ashes have been spread there.
