Mary's Story
Life
My Spouse --
I was out with a girlfriend and met Doug at the Ladybug, a teen hangout, my senior year of high school. We married the next fall, 10 days before he shipped out for Viet Nam, and will celebrate our 56th wedding anniversary in October 2022.
Our Kids --
We have a daughter who was born in 1970 and a son who was born in 1973. Our daughter and her family live in Highlands Ranch, CO. and our son and his wife live nearby in Cedar Park, TX.
Our Grandkids --
We have four precious granddaughters who are the light of our lives.
Where We Have Lived --
We have lived in Manhattan, Kansas; Oklahoma City, Stillwater, and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Waukesha, Wisconsin; Bedford, Texas and now Cedar Park, TX. We moved to Texas in 1986 and have lived here ever since.
School
In high school, I loved English, Latin and French and looked forward to our music programs throughout the years. I enjoyed my teachers and classmates. Our class was small and everyone knew everyone else for the most part.
College
I attended CU for a few months in the fall of 1967 but dropped out to get married before my husband shipped out to Viet Nam. When he returned, we lived ...Expand for more
in Kansas while my husband finished his Army tour and then Oklahoma while he finished college. Then we moved to Wisconsin. I went back to college after our two children were both in grade school and finished my BS 4.5 years later. I attended college in Wisconsin initially and then finished in Oklahoma when we moved to Tulsa. By earning my degree, I was able to make use of my education immediately and also helped put our kids through college later.
Along the way, I met several wonderful people both in college and during my corporate working career.
Workplace
I worked in Information Technology for all of my corporate career doing things from teaching computer classes to managing projects for systems implementation. I left the corporate world in 2000 after Y2K and had to regenerate my own batteries.
More Classes
I began taking senior education classes at our local county community college. I enjoy Spanish, Tai Chi, Yoga, Finance and Memoir Writing classes. I also served on the Senior Advisory Council at the college. I served as president of the council for the 2012-2013 year.
Retirement
Doug retired in March 2013. Now the fun begins!
