Mary's Story
Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to "read my story"! I went from Illinois to northern Arizona in '78. Even lived at the bottom of the Grand Canyon for a few months! Then, in the spring of '79 I left for California to go to whitewater rafting school. After that, I planned to go on to Alaska, but I never made it there since I got hired to work as a guide here (in CA). (Which I did through college and a bit beyond.) Eventually graduated from Humboldt State University in '81 with a degree in Journalism with a minor in Natural Resources. Worked on North Coast newspapers for a few years, then went...Expand for more
back and got a teaching credential. Got married and taught in the Bay Area for six years. Moved to Grass Valley (in the Sierra foothills) with my "ex" and got divorced shortly thereafter. (That was 16 years ago.) I now teach English at a continuation high school in Sacramento, am a foster parent to teen girls, and still live in Grass Valley, in a little house that continuously falls apart, on 20 acres. And yes, I still ride horses!
Well, it's 2017 and here is an update. I'm still in Grass Valley. Never got remarried. Have no kids. No longer a foster parent. Still supporting four horses. Ugh!
