Mary's Story

Mary is from El Paso, Texas. Mary's schools include Ysleta High School and UTEP. Mary was Self Employed and now is Retired. That's right, I am now retired or redirected. Aubrey Tucker is my husband & we have lived in El Paso all of our days and school careers. I left the Socorro school district as a principal of Benito Martinez School and was soon called to the Austin School District as an Area Supt. running over 19 schools. After a few years, my husband & decided to retire for the first time. I returned to El Paso and began to work toward my doctorate degree at UTEP. From there, I became a college professor at New Mexico State University teaching the Principalship in the Educational Leadershp Dept. A few years later we left El Paso and moved to the Hill Country outside of Austin & settled at Wimberley. I then return to university teaching at Texas State University working in the C&I department. I really enjoyed those years teaching and my time as a school board member for a private school in Wimberley. I also participated in various volunteer positions and worked with numerous community organizations. On the side, I started a small support group to help students with tutoring and study skills with the Wimberley schools where I gathered a team of retired teachers to provide support at-risk students in the community. The second time I retired, we decided we needed to act retired so we started to travel and see the world. That was fun! We traveled to Spain. Italy, Mexic...Expand for more
o & London plus different areas of the U.S. Then we added a different way to explore our own country: we now spend our summers at our cabin in Timberon, NM & our winters at South Padre island. Recently, we sold our home in Wimberley and have moved to Rockwall, TX near our children in the Dallas area. We are really looking forward to getting acquainted with our new community. We have 4 children and 3 grandsons that bring so much joy into our lives. My latest project has been doing research on my family genealogy. I have worked on that since 1985 and now I am in the process of writing my work so I can get it published with the help of my Apodaca cousins. To support my work, we have just returned from a trip to northern Spain where I was able to locate the Apodaca Village where my ancestors originated. This summer I hope to trace the Apodaca journey from Spain to northern New Mexico and south to El Paso del Norte to the Ysleta and Socorro community. I hope to explore the archives of N.M.for more information on those ancient relatives. It has been wonderful to trace my heritage and my dream is to pass this information to my family and grandson. I have been blessed with good health and a loving husband along with a supportive family who have been so patient with me all these years. I would love to hear from my Ysleta High School friends and see them again at one of our reunions. Your can reach me on Facebook or send some emails my way....Once and Indian - always an Indian!
