Mary's Story

Life 3-09/(Updated in 1-2012): Katy Kitchen (cabinet dealer & remodeler) in Katy TX since 9-10-2001. Married to Vern Roberts 8-31-2002. He is originally from Oelwein IA. We are now living between Sealy and Wallis,TX. Youngest Daughter went to WCJC Wharton TX now in College in North Texas . One daughter in Houston. One daughter, Jessica & Grand-daughter Lily & son-in-law Eric in Northern TX School best memories: fishing in Wisconsin, walking in the cornfields, helping Dad with livestock & farm work, finding Indian heads behind the barn, time with Nancy my Aunt in Elburn, time with the Methodist Church in Geneva and Methodist Church trips to Mountains around Las Vegas. Best in school memories were riding the bus and avoiding being noticed. I was very shy in school. College memories: are working 70 hrs, single mom and 2 college classes and boyfriend in 1999. Best current memories are: 1) Rewarding kitchen remodels for clients. 2)Feeding our cows, goats, and donkey at night. 3)Walking the property we live on and sitting by the pond. 4)Helping with Food Outreaches at Wallis Church. 5)Sing in the Choir Currently: I like to sit on the back porch of our home and watch the animals better than the nasty stuff on TV. I would rather live my life, than watch someone elses' life. Future: Hoping to repair and ride my motorcycle again soon.... now that I have more than 3 blocks to ride to work. In the Past: My hero was always my Aunt Nancy. She was always a good role model. I always wanted to be a "vet" when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a distant dream, as my grades were not quite good enough for that idea. As it turns out, they were 1/2 right, not cut out to be a vet. Yet I did like being a farmer, and even better for my health was being a small time rancher.... less inside mold to grow inside of buildings. Cow/calf on small scale and same for the goats. 1.3.2012 - Love the Memories and experiences of the Miracles of the last 2 yrs. God used the bad for Good! We have great stories to share! The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Steve Johnson and Mr. Olmstead, because I miss them both..., 1.3.2012 Joe Van Houten, wish we had visited about his victories, and he has gone on before us to the eternal home also in the last year. $100 million, I'd give land with Basic "family-center" building to my church, then spend the rest on paying off my debts, build a building for my business with room to rent out to others; I would like to take annual trips with our children and grandchildren; for great memories, then I would put in a pool with attached outdoor spa for therapy; finish our own kitchen area, finish our floors, and our future master Bath & Closet area; and better fence our property and take a trip around the US on my Motorcycle and to Alaska, riding back on the ferry. To be truly happy, I would be where I am, doing what I am, with our family friends and neighbors. The most unique job I ever had was castrating pigs with side cutters when less than 2 weeks old and teaching others how to do it in Fayette Ia when I was 26 yrs old or leveling our own home/replacing beams with a mechanical Scissor Jack with my husband in 2004? Both were odd in the eyes of others. My trophies are for winning awards with remodeling; Judged by my peers. Another award is also for breaking out of difficult life situation, TV stations were there and it was awarded by Career Recovery Resources. You get one do-over. What do you do differently? I would write a book or several. Maybe I still can.... In 10 years, I hope to be in my own building for work. I'm going to get there by God's grace and my hard work and help from others. What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? I don't know, ... I surprized them at a previous one by riding my harley there and putting on my party dress over my boots and jeans in the parking lot and taking down my curly long hair from under my helmet. and carrying in my helmet and attire with me when I arrived. My second job was at Drs. Jack and Jaggard, where I got paid $2.75 to do Bookwork and blue cross ins forms. What I remember most about it is Ms. Florence Miester as my supervisor and The great life lessons taught by both Doctors... One was a freedom writer and would not accept Ins or Government money because he believed it would break his Hippocratic oath to work in the patients best interest. Accepting money from another puts you to work for the others. Unique fact, I was my own 3rd cousin by marriage for a while about 1967, and one of my two sisters is also my 3rd cousin.
