Mary's Story
After Stanford undergrad, graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh, and teaching political science at Lehigh University and Connecticut College, I went to Yale Law School at age 35 and then practiced for 25 years in Washington, DC, with the law firm of Williams & Connolly. I spent more than 5 years representing a client in Enron-related litigation without realizing that Bill Powers, one of the important figures in that saga, was a WHS classmate!
I retired early two years ago...Expand for more
and now am spending about 1/3 of my time in Tuscany, where my sculptor husband Craig Schaffer and I are completing the construction of a house and studio at Pontezingola, a restored marble-cutting mill at the convergence of two mountain streams in the Alpi Apuane near Seravezza.
Life has had its ups and downs over the last 45 years. But this feels like the best time of life for me personally --- even while I worry about the ever-harder times to come for our country and the world.
