Mary's Story
Life
After 40 years more or less of teaching, I retired in May 2006. Since then I have kept busy keeping up with my 6 grandchildren, ranging in age from 13 years to almost 2 years.
School
I graduated from Pine Bluff High in 1962. My last year in high school I was enrolled in Distributive Education under Juanita Baldwin. I worked at Cohen's Department Store in the afternoons. One of my favorite teachers was Mrs. Coker who taught Plane Geometry.
College
I attended Bethany Nazarene College from 1962-66. I graduated with a degree in Education. When my husband returned from Vietnam, we moved to Charleston, South Carolina where I got my first teaching position.

From 1966-2006 I taught school. I taught in Charleston, South Carolina, Yukon, Oklahoma, subbed in Great Lakes, taught in Okinawa, Japan for the Department of Defense and also in a private school called Christ the King. After our return to the US I taught in Flour Bluff, Texas, subbed in Virginia Beach, Virginia and Athens, Georgia. When it was almost time for my husband to retire from the Navy, we bought a house in Fort Worth, Texas so our daughter could have her junior and senior year in the same school. The rest of my teaching career was spent teaching at Hughes Middle School in Burleson, Texas. After my husband's death in January 2006, I retired that May.
