Mary's Story
Ran away from home and High School and married the love of my life, Charles Hambrick a GI out of Ft. Wood who is from Tennessee. We lived thru the Viet Nam Conflict with him having 3 tours in Thialand where they built roads and bridges thru the wilderness and swamps of Cambodia, Thialand and Viet Nam. During this time we had 2 children, Jane and Charlie, who barely knew their father. When a tour for Europe came up I was excited. We were unable to get government housing sooo Mary packed up her kids and flew to New York where we acquired passports and jetted to Germany. We lived with some friends until the Germans kicked us all out!!! It's against the rules to have house guests too long. We found housing in the German dwarf and lived with the Germans but the kids rode school buses to the post for school, even tho we lived next to a German grade school. Lewis Washington for a year before returning to Missouri. He spent another tour in Europe but we stayed home because of the schools. After this we bought property outside of Lebanon Mo, where we built our own home.Charles hauled canoes for a local canoe factory after he retired from the Army. Then we started a Trucking Co. At first I just did the dispatching but later was able to go with him and dispatch while on the road. Then my Mother came to live with us, we purchased a mobile home where she lived in our backyard for almost 13 years. As you can guess my kids are now at least 50 years old apiece, how time flies. I have 2 Grand Daughters, Terri who is almost 30 and Jessica who is turning 21 this month. They both live close by. Neither one of them is married yet. We are happily retired, make garden, go off on wild excersions once in awhile but otherwise lead pretty calm lives.
