Mary's Story
Life
From the farm in Rawlins County, Kansas the family moved to Colorado Springs in 1966. After H.S. graduation in 1969, I married - wish I had gone to college instead. Years later my 2 children were born: a son, Jason, and a daugher, CharLeigh Ann. Jason was born in '74 and CharLeigh in '76. In Dec., 1994 I became a grandmother for the first time. Jason & Jenny had a daughter, Jessica. 2 yrs later Jacob was born, followed by Julianna Rose and finally Jadin Rochelle (now 2 1/2). Anyway, when my grandson was 5 and in Kindergarten, he was very afraid of monsters. One day (we lived in central Illinois) the tornado sirens went off and all the school children had to go out into the hallway, kneel with their heads down and put their hands over their heads until the sirens quit. Later that day, while talking to Jacob on the telephone, he informed me that his class had to go out into the hallway and "Hide from 'The Tomato' !!" (Out of the mouths of babes. :)
Now I am living in southern, central Kansas - almost 900 miles away from my son and 4 grandkids - but we talk almost every day on the phone.
Yep, I'm back to being a "down-home-country-girl" and lov'in every minute of it.

xperience was in 1959 when I began attending Colby Elementary's 3rd grade class - taught by Mrs. Mallory, who incidentally was my favorite teacher of all times. It is so etched in my mind because I had attended Chardon Park School in Rawlins County - a small 2 room country school for grades 1-8. What a change it was to go from one room full of 1st - 5th graders to "town school".
Have I ended up where I wanted to be "when I grew up and finished school?" No, I have not. There was a time when I had dreams and aspirations of working in the medical field as an R.N. or maybe even a Dr. But life took a different turn for me and I ended up a homemaker and eventually a mother to a son in 1974 and a daughter in 1976. From these two blessings I have been even more blessed with 5 beautiful grandchildren: Jessica (9), Jacob (7), Julianna Rose (5), Jadine (1 1/2) and Katie (1). Unfortunately, since I moved back to my home state of KS. in November of 2003 to be near my sister and my Mom, I am missing the day-to-day things the grandchildren do. Thank goodness for vacations!!
My life now is full of my church family, volunteer work, keeping my home and yard up and striving to do the Lord's work daily, whatever that may be.
