Mary's Story

Life Married right out of high school; went to college while husband was going out to sea on a FBM submarine. Got my degree in Accounting. Joined the Mormon Church. Worked some, then started having babies; stopped at four. When babies were little, got involved in conservative politics: mother and stroller on capitol steps scenario. Did lots of public affairs work for the Church. Found out I liked working with the media. Divorced in 1990, remarried a year later. Yes, some brave soul took on a 37 year old woman with four children under the age of 12...one being mentally handicapped. Still married to Prince Charming...I got him and another daughter. Today we live in Newnan, GA, a suburb of Atlanta. Youngest daughter and her husband live about an hour away. One son and his wife live here in Newnan, my youngest son, wife, child, and baby on the way just moved to Chicago. Another daughter is married, has a baby and lives in north Atlanta, and my handicapped daughter Summer lives at home with us. She just finished watching Blue’s Clues. I probably won’t have empty nest syndrome, as Summer will probably be here and child-like a long time. Husband Scott and I own Royle Services, Inc. an appraisal management company doing residential real estate appraisals. I am who I always was. Someone who looks for the best in others and expects to find it. I'm still tall--go figure. Not near as thin and getting old looking and not liking that, but learning to accept it. I usually have a smile on my face--and the wrinkles to prove that that has usually been the ...Expand for more
case. I have spent most of my time parenting (don't really like that word) struggling to raise good children. It has paid off as I'd rather spend my time with them than just about anyone else. I taught them to read the authors I love, so we have plenty to talk and laugh about. (Have you ever read Terry Pratchett? Orson Scott Card? Read ENDER'S GAME then email me.) I love to read and can't think of anything better than to lie on my bed and read a good book. I sell (and buy) on ebay. I even sold one of my son's origami figures on Ebay to make a point--that you could sell anything on eBay. We are a computer family. When Scott and I met, we both had an 8088--that was when there was only DOS and Windows was just a twinkle in Billy Gates' eye. Joining the Mormon Church is clearly the best thing I have ever done for many spiritual and temporal reasons. My children having been raised as latter-day saints, although not perfect, have a very clear picture of where they came from, what they are doing here and where they are going. After leaving Shreveport, I lived in Virginia, S. Carolina, Lafayette, LA (Not to be confused with the Louisiana where Shreveport is), Wisconsin, Nashville, Rural Tennessee, Shreveport again, Southern California at 4000 ft, and now in Newnan, Georgia. We live 30 minutes from the airport. If you get stranded there, give me a call. And as always--I still have plenty to say. School A. C.
