Mary's Story
Have rejoined Classmates. To bring everyone up to date, I have been retired from Texas Department of Corrections for almost 5 years. I retired exactly one year AFTER Donald retired. He retired 2-28-09 and me 2-28-10, so that is our "memorial" date. September 28th is also our anniversary (almost 46 years) AND the date Donald retired from the US Army. Enjoying retirement (mostly) and spoiling grandchildren. We have 4 - Ryan is 23, Ami 20 (and got married in June), Mallory 8 and Makenzie 5. The oldest belong to our oldest, Sandy, the two younger belong to daughter Carolyn. There are 8 years between our girls (had a miscarriage in between), thus the age differences for the grandchildren. They all live within an hour drive, so see them often.
Have had medical problems since the first of the year and they are not done yet. Donald has had 5 laser surgeries on his legs (clots). That started in January. In April he had 12 inches of his colon out because of cysts and signs of cancer (no chemo or radiation needed - thank goo...Expand for more
dness). In September they were going to take out his gallbladder taken out, but due to complications and infections, they stapled him up without removal. The surgeon here said that after the colon surgery, his colon shifted and adhered to the gallbladder. Since there is no trauma hospital here, they are referring him to Dallas. This surgeon has sent paperwork to Dallas. Hope to hear from them in next day or so. As if that isn't bad enough, he has developed Gout! We had a ramp put in for him as steps are difficult for him (even the 2 into the house).
As for me, I am doing pretty good. No major medical problems (can't afford to get sick - Donald needs me right now). Good thing. Donald can't pick up but about 10 pounds, and can't do any kind of yard work. Have to mow about an acre of grass. That's my job now!
Anyway, that's my update. Been thinking about people from school but don't know really how to re-connect with anyone. Been such a long time!!
Would love to communicate with anyone "from the good old days"!
