Maryalis's Story
School
I graduated from YOUNGS
TOWN HS in 8th Grade in 1943. The school from Grades 1-12 was called YOUNGSTOWN HIGH SCHOOL.
My graduating class consisted of 24 students--12 boys and 12 girls. Several of us were the children of officers stationed at Ft. Niagara.
As I recall the outstanding student was Barbara Robinson, the Valedictorian. I also remember Carolyn Chesterton,a friend from Ft. Niagara; Gary Howard, from a local Youngstown family; and Billy B. whose last name I cannot remember but whose father worked for the Red Cross.
My year there was a happy one and I remember the Principal, Mrs. Ripken and beginning the study of Latin in the 8th Grade. I entered 9th Grade in Sept. of '43 and looked folrward to the beginning of high school but my father was was transferred early ...Expand for more
in the Fall of 1943 and my family and I left Youngstown at that time.
Is there anyone out there who remembers the old YHS?
I attended high school at Our Lady of Wisdom Academy in Ozone Park, NY where I graduated in 1947. This was another wonderful experience. I am happy to say that I remain friends with a number of my former classmates who share the beautiful memories of school days there. We were taught by the Daughters of Wisdom, a congregation of dedicated and loving women. I thank them for my happy high school years.
College
I received my MS in Education from St. John's Graduate School of Education in '75.
I graduated from Fordham University School of Education then located at 301 Broadway, NYC in 1951 with a BS in Chemistry----a proud member of an excellent school.
