Matt's Story

Went to Wisconsin State Univ at Oshkosh after R-B. When I matriculated, it was still Oshkosh State Teachers College, but by the time I graduated, it was Univ.of Wis at Oshkosh. Oy, veh. Started out in forestry and then majored in English and Philosophy. Probably two of the most useless fields unless you were going to teach. Although, my English major help me with my communication skills which lead me to my most favorite job of classification support specialist with the USPS as a headquarters domicile. Loved that job. Retired in 2009 after a stint as the revenue assurance analyst with the Chicago Division of the Postal Inspection Service. Have been married to Christine (Bush) since 1968. Two children, Scott and Sabrina. Engineer and pastry chef. We love diversity....Live in unincorporated C...Expand for more
ook County, technically Elgin, but really closer to Streamwood and Bartlett. Dogs. Several border collies. Great dogs. One grandson so far and the love of our lives. Was certified as Master Gardener by Univ. of IL agricultural extension service last year and volunteer in that capacity. Have traveled to Europe a fair amount. Know central and southern Germany and Austria pretty well, and Paris like downtown Chicago. Italy, Spain, et al. Went from Mr. Quiet Guy in high school to class clown in college. Always a joke now. Can get up in front of 1,000 and speak spontaneously, but Mr. Cohen's speech class used to terrify me. Barely passed typing with Miss Rotello, but can type 60wpm now. Funny how things change. Had a great time at the 50th reunion and hope to be alive and well for the 55th.

So Rowan says, "nice job assembling the new fire pit, Boss."

So I says, "yeah, went pretty well, but it was idiot proof."

So Rowan says, "How many times did you have to look at the directions and take it apart to do it r
So I says, "Dog, that's a personal best! Pool open before July 4th, no runs for parts or supplies, only wasted ten minutes before I realized the pump was okay, but the GFI outlet was dead, and NO BAND-AIDS!"

So Rowan says,
My doppelganger found work....
I'm no Michael Lachowicz (but then again, he's a real chef, and I'm more like the Pillsbury dough boy), but this is still a damn good dinner.
Why I hate squirrels #378. What's left of the Asiatic lillies.
Ribeyes on the grill with Chef Shaan. Very demanding 5 year old. Makes Gordon Ramsey look like a wuss.
The secret ingredient in my sangria and "Egg Erroneous," Calvados.
My work here is done. Chef Michael Lachowicz, you need a 71 year old intern? Je parle ....
End result of hours of prep work and execution. Top is toasted sesame seeds and orange zests.
Walked down to the pond and shot this. Without falling in...
