Matt's Story

After finishing up grad school at Berkeley and a post doc at Davis, I took a faculty postion at the University of Texas at Austin. I never thought I would leave California, but here I am 26 years later. After being a professor for about 7 years I decided to start a biotech company. I built "Ambion" up to about 400 people and then made the decision to try to develop ...Expand for more
both cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. In 2006 I sold Ambion and took about 100 people with me to start Asuragen where I am now. We recently spun our therapeutics effort off into a new company called "Mirna Therapeutics". We are using miRNAs to treat cancer. Texas has no good mountains so I am back in the Sierra's every summer with my 3 boys for a "mountain" fix.
