Matthew's Story

Life Lets see, where to start... I was married w/no kids for nine years. Worked at two banks for a total of 15 years prior to making a career change into nursing. During the time I went back to college to pursue my new career in nursing I worked as a Transportation Security Screener for the federal government approx.3 years. Soon afterwards I attended Mt Carmel College of Nursing and worked as a PCA (patient care associate). May (2007) I graduated from Mt Carmel College of nursing. I took the NCLEX exam on June 12th, 2007 and found out I became a registered nurse on June 13th for the state of Ohio. Prior to taking the exam I accepted a Critical Care Fellowship position at a local hospital that that started July 30th, 2007. I finished the Fellowship and was placed in a department that just did not fit. I was not able to transfer and thus said goodbye to that local hospital. Four days later I attained another job (its good to be a nurse). Unlike finding a business job ... nursing is much easier. I am relaxing, reading books (other than nursing), Trimming the bushes at the house, spending time with my four legged friend - a 13 pound sheltie named Lady Sabrina, traveling with Sabrina in tow, and going to movies when I can. Thats all I got to say about that. Life goes on. Avoided joining the armed forces once again. It has been over a year and I am still working for the one place I said I wound not but enj...Expand for more
oying, I think. Running again, biking, swimming, running marathons, 1/2 marathons, and tri's. Keeping fit and enjoying it. Ran the San Fransisco marathon July 26th 2009. PB 3:46:18. If your out there look me up. Updated Aug 1st, 2009. I finally left that Skilled nursing job and now working for a traveling nursing job. Not as many hours (working on that) but pay is great. I want to land a hospital job soon however Columbus has a glut of nurses now. Don't come here to find a nursing job. Anyhow, all is well. Still SWNK (single with no kids), looking forward to the days ahead. December 18, 2009 I have been working in a couple hospitals as an agency nurse. We are the first ones called off or sent home if low census happens. This causes a dip in the number of hours per week. So I over book and manage to get in 3 to 4 12 hour days. Anyhow, all is well. Breaking in the new car... no more small car, a first for me since I started driving at 16. Getting 29.5 MPG with 280 miles on the car. Should get better. Will let you know as if you care. Sabrina is still with me. She is my pal when I am at home. Does not leave my feet. She loves barking at the neighbor's dog and running back an forth, as there is a fence separating the two dogs. She becomes a mess in the spring after snow melts. Her white front becomes a thick mud color. Looking forward to 2010. What new it may bring me. Perhaps a significant other?
