Maura's Story
Life
I have been married to the same man since 1986 and have four beautiful daughters, ages 14,15,16 and 17. I have worked for the Elgin Police and Fire Department as a dispatcher for the last 10 years and prior to that I stayed at home to take care of our daughters. My husband fell 40 feet from our roof in 2000 and was gravely injured. He was unable to return to work, so I am the primary source of income for our household and I now have 2 in college (including him) and the other three are in catholic high school. I love my job as a dispatcher, and am on-call 24 hours a day as a Technical Response Team dispatcher. While not working, I attend 12-step recovery meetings in my area, belong to my local catholic church, spend time with by extended family, garden and sew, and try to keep my 100+ year old house from falling down around us! All in all, it has been a wild ride since high school graduation and I wouldn't have done a single thing differently.
****UPDATE 2007****
Well, It's been an exciting couple of years around here! My oldest daughter, Grace, is a sophomore at the Art Institute in Chicago and has lived on her own for 2 years now. My second, Claire, has been accepted to the University of Chica...Expand for more
go Dept of Psychology and will be leaving in August. Paige is flourishing at St.Edward's highschool in Elgin as a junior playing varsity basketball and softball, her team winning the regional championship and competing downstate. Maude, the youngest, is a sophomore at St.Ed's and is scary-smart! I have added some new pictures of them, as they are my finest accomplishments/pride and joy.
I am still with the Elgin Police Department and an active volunteer in my church, St.Mary of Elgin as a member of the St.Vincent DePaul Society, among other things.
I just became a godmother again, for the 10th time, for my best friend's newest granddaughter, and was very honored to have been asked.
I am starting a fledgling design company, making special occasion wear. It started out as a hobby, sewing for my girls, as shown in the new photos, and demand has been high for formals, christening gowns and i have expanded to include window coverings and home furnishings.
I have also begun an 18 week marathon training program to up my running capacity past the 5k/10k runs i've been competing in, in hopes of running the Dublin (yes, Ireland) Marathon in October. Keep your fingers crossed!
All in all, its been a blessed life!
