Maureen's Story
After high school, I went to Bryant College to study to be a legal secretary . . . imagine, typing 60 words a minute is a D.
Anyway, I worked for a few years in my field, when I decided that I would become . . . a cocktail waitress! Well I made twice the money in half the hours - and had a great time!!
Decided to visit California with my brother, Mike. Went out in May of 1980 . . . Six and a half years later I came home with my two kids, Jessica and Jason, (ages at the time: 5 1/2 years and 8 months old).
Got serious then.
Took a job at CIGNA where I worked for almost four years and went back to school nights. Bought a house in Vernon. Raised my kids.
In 1990 I started my career at Merrill Lynch as an Associate Financial Advisor, got my Series 7, Series 63, Series 66 and Life and Health Insurance licenses.
Moved to the home I built in Ellington in 1994.

In 1997 I partnered with my Dad, Ed Keating, and his former assistant, Sheila MacDonald, to form The Keating Group. We worked together for almost ten years when my Dad, and, the next year, Sheila retired. By then my team had grown by the addition of my current partners, Bill Schaeneman and Mike DeCorleto, and changed our name to the Strategic Wealth Advisors.
Still going to school nights, in 2004 I received the designation of Certified Financial Planner. Was made a Vice President of Merrill Lynch in 2005 and made the Chairman's Club from 2003-2006, and in 2007 make the Charles E. Merrill Circle.
Love what I do!!! I feel that I am really helping people and teaching them as we work together. It makes me feel good to help people reach their financial goals, whether it be retirement, college for their kids, transferring their wealth to the next generation, borrowing to buy a home or to expand a business, or any other goals they may have.
