Maureen's Story

Life After graduation in'76, attended both FCC and FSU/School of Business. When I was done with that I moved back to my hometown of Santa Monica, worked in the corporate world for a while(hated it)started my own design company and was offered a job as a costume designer with a film company(loved it!),found a great place on Venice Beach and for the next 12 years designed like crazy and lived the beach life. Stupidly got married in 1988, had a child, moved to Arizona(another stupid move) wisely got divorced in 1992. Instead of alimoney I opted for tuition money, went back to school at ASU and got another degree this time a BFA/Costume,Set and Lighting Design, shifted from working in film to the theatre world. Fast forward to the present.....After 20 plus years as a costume designer in L.A. and Arizona I thought it was time for a change and decided to transfer my creativity and design experience to Interior Design. Ultimately my goal for ONE MO TIME DESIGNS is to become an all inclusive design firm where a client would come to me and I would handle all aspects of their home transformations inside and out. From painting and decor, electrical and structual changes to landscaping- whatever they needed.I have obtained my painting contractors license for Arizona and am establishing some great working relationships with several architects, electricians, landscape designers, etc. My client list is growing, things are looking good. On the personal side of things, as I said- I am divorced and now happily 17 years single and my only child will turned 18 this coming year. She is a typical teenager and constant source of inspiration, energy and amusement for me and my greatest joy. She began living with her father in 2006, to give him a chance to full time parent his own child(something he has never done) and I will wat...Expand for more
ch with great amusement as he learns that it IS NOT an easy job-did I mention she's turned 18? So now I am not a single parent but just SINGLE. And I am going to start enjoying the freedom. I still ski avidly (when there's snow and the time),get back to L.A. and the beach (which I miss tremendously) as often as possible, and work on my home that I bought recently. I am doing the majority of the renovating/ remodeling myself and am having a blast doing it. I am turning out to be my own best client! Life is good and I am happy. I hope those of you that read this, are too. 3/07 Footnote to above: Had such a blast at the reunion reconnecting with everyone. Renewed some old friendships and began some very new ones. I am so very glad I went. If there's a 35th, I'm there! And if anyone visits my profile please sign in so I know you've been there UPDATE 11/11/13 Been a rough couple years with the housing crash in AZ but have managed to stay in the game- things are turning a corner and have been doing a lot of remodeling/renovating/design projects with projects coming up after the first of the year. Social life quiet -been concentrating on building my company- but may test the dating waters this coming year. Looking forward to doing some skiing (if there's snow) hope all of you have faired as well! 9/1/15 Still designing- still in Arizona Still single- and still loving life ! McKalan is now 25 and will soon be a first time mother herself - God does time fly . Looking forward to doing some traveling soon exploring other world's. Update2/2023 Still Designing.
