Maureen's Story

Time has flown by. I had unfortunately missed the 10 yr Reunion in '85, which i so regret. After grad in 75, i went to Mount Royal for 1/2 yr. because i didnt know what i wanted to do.. uninspired, i waited until Fall '76 to go to SAIT for 2 yr. Tourism Program, and i've been a Travel Agent since September 11, 1978 , still loving this crazy business. Got married in '80, BIG mistake, and it was over in 4 yrs. He got the Cat and the sewing machine when i left. Went to Tanzania in 1985 for safari and to attempt climbing Kilimanjaro (it was too cold for me , and i only made it to the 2nd of 3 huts).. where i met a South African guy, and to make a long storey short, i ended up moving to Tanzania Aug '85 (thats why i missed the '85 reunion) , and well, that relationship didnt work out and i was back in Calgary after just a few months late '85.. I had my job to come back to , thank god,..I met my Russian husband in July '90, and have been so happy that someone could put up with me for the past 20+ yrs! I didnt have any children of my own, but my husband has a daughter and son in law in Toronto and now have 2 grandchildren, and we don't see them often enough. Summer 2010, my husband and I took i would say, ou...Expand for more
r ultimate adventure traveling to SW Uganda on a Mountain Gorilla Trek, then overland through NW Uganda to Nairobi, Kenya. We then met our sponsored Child with Christian Children's Fund in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania . Agnes turned 16, in 2010, and we have sponsored her since she was 10 . A very humbling experience to say the least to see how many live, and how wonderful it was to meet someone you've been communicating with for many years on the other side of the world, face to face. Most of my travels have been on the adventure/experiential travel side, and have made huge differences in my life. I LOVE animals and always have been in awe of being amongst Them, when we are their guests , and have the honor of having a brief interlude. Passing the 1/2 Century, I've asked myself many times lately.. "What have i been doing and what have i accomplished in 50+ yrs ?. ...I've worked, slept , ate , drank too much , made some good and some bad investments , .made sure as best i could that i have contributed to some causes i care about, and all i know is that we could not have been born in a better time. The changes that our generation has gone through.. incredible. Hoping you are living your dreams !.
