Maurice's Story

Life Born in El Salvador. Immigrated in 1958. Attended West Tampa Junior High in Tampa, Florida. Moved to Hazelton, Pennsylvania in 1959. Attended DA Harman Jr. High then Hazelton High. Dropped out of High School to join the US Army. Served in the Army until April 1967. Having obtained by GED diploma enrolled in College of San Mateo then San Francisco Community College and Golden Gate University graduating with a BA in Administration of Justice. Graduated from San Fransiwco School of Theatre Arts. Performed in numerous plays and was an extra in Bullit, Petulia, What's Up Dic? and Dirty Harry. Dropped out of the fantasy world when I fell in love with my current partner in life, Anabella. While campaigning for a legislator running for election as a state senator, I was offered a job as field representative after he won. I served in that capacity until my parents retired to the Tampa Bay area. I was very cloe to my father and I missed him terribly. In 1977, we moved to Tampa, Florida. My wife was an executive with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. I could not find a suitable job. So I got my father out of retirement and with our savings we bought an auto repair shop we named Batista Import Auto which serviced and repaired japanese made cars. That was the beginning of my career in the automotive field. My father suffered a stroke in 1987 and returned with my mother to California to live with my sister and her husband. I could not raise the funds to buy my Dad, so the business was...Expand for more
sold. I went to work for a friend who owned a tire store. In 1990 I made the move from the mechanical field to the collision side of the business and been in that facet since. From managing an independent collision shop to a General Motors dealership to my current position as assistant collision center manager for a multi car dealership (Chrysler, Suzuki, Mazda, Acura, Nissan)in Tampa called Ferman Automotive. My wife left the corporate world and learned to become an esthetician. That's someone who does facials, eyebrow waxes, et al. We sold the only home we've owned in Florida in April 2001 to move to our current duplex in San Antonio, Florida, a quaint community just north of Tampa. Look at a Florida Map. Find Tampa. Locate Interstate 75 and follow it north to State Road 52. We live 8/10 of a mile west of that intersection in a bedroom community named Tampa Bay Golf & Country Club. Anabella's father passed away from leukemia in May 2001. Her mom is still with us at the young age of 88. My mom died September 26, 2001. Dad passed away November 29, 2004. They are both buried in Colma, California. My older brother Armand is retired and lives in Puerto Vallarta. His grandson Armani lives in LA. Sister Analicia lives with her husband in Cameron Park, California (east of Sacramento). Younger brother Roland, wife and son live in Danville, California (east of Oakland). Roland is General Manager of Hayward Toyota. Anabella and I had three daughters who have given us 6 grandchildren.
