Carol Whitney's Story
I was born in Kearney, NE, as were Jerry and our kids, Kelly and Shelly. We moved to Long Beach, California in 1964when the kids were 5 and 2. Came to California in a 1934 Ford ! Great fun ! My schools include Holdrege High School , Kearney State and UCLA . I majored in Creative Writing courses at UCLA, wrote a book of poetry, Me & You & Other Things...(still in print ... Shelly last purchased a copy through ABE books, as well as I received a copy through Amazon) . I crafted and wrote 104 television commercials and have painted many oil paintings, as well as acrylics. I love to paint, write, create and share with others. My poetry is included in a number of anthologies. One of my oil paintings is on line through a friend's site. Shelly works at QSC in Costa Mesa, CA where she is in the accounting department and handles multi-tasks, along with major accounting services to clients. QSC is online and you can read all about it, if you choose. Kelly decided to move from Huntington Beach back to Kearney (where Jerry is also...by the way, even though we divorced years ago, we are STILL the best of friends and neither of us would have it any other way...which, of course, we love it that way, and so do Kelly and Shelly). he and Jerry have found, rebuilt, and displayed at auto shows and auctions, many, many beautiful old cars, now built back to the original vehicle. Many can be seen at their shop in Kearney on Landon Road, as well as their home in Kearney. I retired six years ago from working for the VA system as a counselor to Veterans who had either just returned from active duty or I had clients who were in past conflicts such as the Vietnam War, Korean War, etc. It was a wonderful 13 year long experience...after the office closed, since there were not enough funds to continue in business, we were out of a job. I continue the business through my home and was able to give my services to veterans. It saddens me that today services may or may not be available to them, especially when so desperately needed. I am very, very active in my church, have a multitude of friends, here and throughout California, along with lots of family in Nebraska, namely my sister, Marilyn Whitney Peterson of Cozad, and lots and lots of family in Colorado.
