Max's Story
Life
I married at 21, so it's been 15 years now. I have two kids, ten and seven. I'm living in Louisville, KY and have been since 1995. Some of my plans -- to somehow make a living at music -- have been just cancelled. I found I couldn't make something I loved into a job. It was torture. Other plans -- getting black belt in Tae Kwon Do -- I have followed through on. I have been to China and South Korea this year. Very interesting trip. Then there's the matter of the three books I've written. Some of that stuff is almost as old as my marriage now. I made a try at publishing years ago, into a very consolidated market. Now that there's so much desktop publishing out there, and the web to advertise on, I think I could have a go at it again. My career is just what I do for work, and my life is raising my kids and (hopefully) teaching them to live a life of self-fulfilment, rather than self-aggrandize...Expand for more
ment and material gain.
College
I attended 4 colleges in all. Sort of an a-la-carte education. I finally finished my degree by correspondence well after I had entered an entirely different career.
Workplace
I've worked in IT at Kindred Healthcare for 11 years. I'm currently a Consulting-level systems programmer. I'm being gradually sucked into the hopeless vortex of management, apparently because I have communications skills, or some such thing. It's very amusing for me to be doing this because I have almost zero formal training at computer programming -- I taught myself to program in Basic when I was 12, and was more or less "discovered" into my current job. I don't mind doing it for a living, and it's kind of good that it worked out this way. I've found I cannot work a hobby for cash -- it makes me miserable. So my work is something I have an aptitude for, but not an overriding passion about.
