Mayimuna's Story
Most will remember me by the incendiary speech I gave as part of a Harrisburg High School Black History month program during which Mr. Grove or Mr Jackson dimmed the lights. (Haha, funny now--not then.) Others will remember me by the recitation (er,more like reading) of Nikki Giovanni's poetry alongside the Hallelujah Chorus-- in yet another rousing Black History Month performance.

married, had children and helped my (then) husband open a retail bookstore which specialized in books "by for and about people of African descent" --2 blocks north of Howard University. We were wildly successful --at least by local accounts.
In 1997, I converted to Al-Islam (Sunni Islam). In 2005, along with my mother, I made the holy pilgrimage to Makkah, Arabia --one of the most prominent highlights of my life to this point.
Recently, I returned to the vicinity of the nation's capital after nearly 10 years in Omaha, Nebraska. More later...
