Maynard's Story
I spent four years at UIC, majored in staying out of Viet Nam. Graduated with a degree that allowed me to qualify as a Special Ed. teacher at a state mental health center on the northwest side of the city. While an undergrad, I was offered, and accepted, an opportunity to work in the highly unionized world of Legitimate Theater in downtown Chicago. a few times out of the country. I've met and worked with some very famous people, and you'd be amazed at how different people can be when the cameras and lights go out. Thats all I'm going to say in print, but let me say some of them surprised me, big time. I toured on and off for eighteen years, taking time out for babies. Been back since '90 working at various road houses until six years ago, when I was asked to head up the crew that reopened the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan, Il. The city spent $24 million on renovation to the historic original look. It's quite beautiful inside, and it was a nice place to finish my 40+ years in the theater.
I retired Jan. 1 to get a total rt. hip replacement. I feel great now, and looking forward to seeing everyone.
