Megan's Story
Life
During the year following graduation, I stayed in LA, nannying and doing what I could on a meager salary to take part in the performing community. I joined a dance company formed by a college friend called Meh-tropolis Dance Theatre. I also participated in a number of small film projects and a play in Hollywood.
When I couldn't take being broke anymore, I moved back to Portland to save up some money and hopefully break into the local theatre scene. Within a week of arriving home, I auditioned for and was asked to join a local company, Kinetic Images Dance Co. I spent a year dancing and working a boring desk job to build up my bank account, and seriously contemplated moving to New Zealand after Bush was re-elected. My departure date kept getting pushed back and eventually became indefinite after performing in a couple of local shows over the summer ('05). I visited New York, with the idea of moving there-instead of NZ-so I scoped it out for 2 weeks, attending dance classes and several auditions. I'm currently on a hiatus from New York. Spending time in Portland with my family (including my new niece!), and keeping my options open, so that I can return to the East Coast sometime soon.
School
After spending my freshman year at the U of O, I transferred to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles to study dance and theatre. In May 2003, I graduated with a BA in dance, with a minor in theatre arts.
College
Things I loved about college:
-the group field trip to the piercing parlor
-wipe-off board bachelor voting
-bashing Mariah Carey and Antonio Banderas
-the D.C. crew at U of O
-the ghost in my sophomore dorm apt.
-the quote board
-jumping on the couches to punk music
-tank tops in November
-five minutes to the ocean
-finals procrastination: scissors and hairdye
-random videotaping
-grilled cheese with tomatoes and guac.
