âHONEY B.â
encompasses every solid soulful entertainer who has had an impact in the music business. This dynamic neo-soul songstress has a vocal range that quickly draws comparisons to industry powerhouses Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, and Aretha Franklin.
A seasoned veteran---Honeyâs versatility can sooth you, relax your mind or have you bobbing your head to the beat. By the time she was five, Honey, performing as Melanie Burke, was performing with her father the legendary Solomon Burke, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and capturing the audience with âGot to Get You Off of My Mind.â Already showing promise, when she was 11yrs old, Melanie signed with her brothers and sisters----The Sons and Daughters of Solomon---to join MGM Music. The group, created by her father, trained under the late great J. W. Alexander.
Later, Honey moved to North Carolina and to be with her mother; it wasnât long before she focused on singing. As âMelanie Burkeâ she sang with R&B band
âThe Soul Express.â The Soul Express toured the south performing at military venues. With a yearning for more and to further her music career, Melanie went back to Los Angeles. There, she trained with Motown Heavyweight William âMickeyâ Stevenson (former head A&R for Motown Records). Stevenson placed her to work under female group Hodges, James, and Smith (London Records recording artists). Melanie also studied dance with the great Lon Fontaine.
With years of performing and growing her brand, Melanie performed in small clubs and made a living as a freelance background recording artist with Casablanca, A&M and Rawkus Records and as a studio artist with Billy Preston, Peacock (Anna Gayle group), Lesley Ughams, and neo Soul artist/ songwriter/producer Novel. Her impressive professional resume includes touring with Chaka Khan (âWhatcha Gonna Do For Meâ tour) in Hawaii & Japan.

s a teenager, Honeyâs love for acting started to develop. She worked as an extra in âCalifornia Dolls, White Mamma (Betty Davis). Palmer Town USAâ ---a series written and directed by the late Alex Haley, and âSophisticated Gentsâ with former NFL star Bernie Casey. Melanie played a lead role as âEffieâ, in the stage adaptation of âDream Girlsâ (the same role that skyrocketed R&Bâs Jennifer Hudson to stardom and Jennifer Holiday on Broadway) in an off Broadway production at the Cape Fear Regional Theater. Honeyâs hunger to know more led into directing. She directed the stage play âA Sinners Prayer.â After that experience, she wrote, directed and produced her powerful stage play âTrouble Donât Last.â Honey also wrote and produced 14 original songs for the soundtrack.
In 2005, the melodic Melanie Burke premiered her gospel single âYesterdayâ and performed on stage at the Paradisio in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
