Melanie's Story
Life
Living in Central Jersey, married at 43 so no children but I have step-grandchildren. Thank God they just call me Melanie!! Lived in various areas of NJ for a while, in Japan for a while, in Philadelphia for 8 years and returned to Jersey and the suburbs when I got married. Being single so long allowed me to do alot of traveling and have lots of adventures. In general, my life is good.
School
I received my bachelor's degree in Special Education, a Master's degree in Counseling and Personnel Services from Trenton State College (now the College of NJ) and have taken additional graduate coursework to obtain a Supervisor's Certification and gain mor...Expand for more

Workplace
I've worked for the State of NJ for the past 22 years. I worked in the Department of Human Services for 16 years working in support of students who were deafblind and their families for 11 years, ran an AmeriCorps and Youth Corps program for 4 years, and made sure that DHS educational programs were compliant with state regulations and providing an appropriate education to the students they served for 2 years. In 2003 I accepted a position with the Department of Education in NJ and am the Special Education Learning Consultant for the central part of the state. It's been a busy and rewarding work life!!!
