Life
In 1988 I finally settled down when I met and married Kevin Thomas, making me Melanie Thomas Thomas! As of 2011 our three boys are Nicholas - 18, Ethan - 15, and Matthew - 14. Nick is attending a Culinary Arts school and is the chef at a local Sushi restaurant! He is also a stand-up comedian and actor on the side. If their plans play out Ethan will be a rock star and Matthew an engineer or heart surgeon. My mother lives about 10 minutes from us and though she is very independent we visit her several times a week and help her however we can. My father passed away in December 2010 at 90 years old. Even though I had was fortunate to have had him so long I am having a lot of trouble dealing with his loss. College
I attended Columbia College in Missouri on a scholarship but returned to El Paso after the first year when my mother had a heart attack and needed help at home.Graduated from UTEP in 1978 with a BBA in Marketing where I was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and the Golddiggers dance team. Graduated from UTEP in December 2009 with an MBA in Computer Information Systems.
Workplace
After graduation from UTEP I lived in San Antonio working as a clothing buyer for Dillard's but moved to the technology world (better hours and fun!) and back to El Paso in 1984. I have been in technology in education since. I joined UTEP in 2000 and am the Marketing & Communications Manager for the Technology department. My husband owns his own company, ThomasDataDesign.com, designing and supporting custom network and software systems.
Fun Stuff
I performed in local musicals until I married Kevin, I was a Cub/Boy Scout leader for over 10 years (my hubby still maintains the Yucca Council site), I am very active in the UTEP Alumni, Kappa Delta Sorority alumni, WSMR Kids alumni, and of course, the Andress Alumni. Last but not least I help with all the kids performance activities - band, orchestra, acting. Those keep us busier than all the other things!
