Melinda's Story
Life
Right after I graduated from Hickman High School, I joined the United States Navy and attended boot camp in Orlando, Florida, where I met and married my husband of 31 years. We currently reside in a suburb of Houston, Texas, where it is always unforgivingly hot!
My husband, a retired Navy chief, is currently serving as a veteran police Sgt. in the City of Sugar Land Police Department (where he has worked for over 24 years). Yes, I know what you are thinking? She married a cop? LOL!
My oldest son Eric (age 30) is now married with one baby girl and he has just returned from his second Army tour in Iraq. He is with an Army Airborne unit and makes his living jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. He and his wife Alicia and their daughter Erica recently moved into their first brand new home in Kentucky.
My daughter Megan (age 28) is pregnant with her third child.
Our youngest son, Brandon (age 19), enlisted in the Army and also resides in Kentucky.
I retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - Parole Division a few years ago, but on May 13, 2010, I found myself giving birth to our fourth child! Yes, it's true, I had another baby at the glorious age of ...Expand for more
47! I was told that only about 1.8 percent of women my age can even get pregnant naturally, so it is truly a rare and special gift. Madison Jane is our miracle baby. Her beautiful long, brown hair and dark eyes are simply angelic.
I also have custody and am raising my 4-year old granddaughter, Autumn Rose. She is a red haired, blue eyed angel who unfortunately suffers from a very rare disorder called Glucose Transporter Deficiency Syndrome and as a result she is unable to walk or talk and she suffers from a seizure disorder as well.
Autumn and Madison are wonderful with each other!
My sister Julie, married a pilot with American Airlines and now lives in Bow, New Hampshire, with her husband John and their two children Michael and Jessica. Julie just recently returned to the workforce and is currently working in the medical field.
My brother Chris still lives in Columbia with his wife Brenda and his three daughters Valarie, Chrissy and Katelyn.
I try to return to Columbia about once a year, usually at Christmas time to see my parents and family over the holidays. My children have always enjoyed seeing the snow in Missouri as it seldom snows in southern Texas.
