Melinda's Story
I attended Ohio State after high school and graduated in March '69 with a Bachelor's in Nursing. I worked at various nursing positions over the years...my main nursing was with cancer patients. I got so burned out with death...I opted out of nursing about 16 years ago and worked in the local school system for 6 years as a teacher's aid and the past 10 years have packed merchandise at the Victoria's Secret warehouse near my home...got to be home with my children more and had less stress!
My husband of 36 years, Jay, just died 14 months ago from diabetes and lung Ca...so I didn't get far from my nursing experience even on the home front.
I have 2 children...Steven who is 29 and still lives at home(finished his master's degree July 2008 and can't find a decent job because he's inexperienced or overqualified...pick your choice); Amy who is 25, lives in northern Ky. with her husband Chad, married Sept. 2008, was fortunate her father lived long enough to be at her wedding, and I miss her dearly not being nearby. She just learned she is pregnant and due this Aug./Sept. I also have 3 stepchildren...Nick ...Expand for more
44, Michael 43, and Missy 41 who all live in the northern Kentucky area. Steven I have worked as Redcoats for the Ohio State football games the past 5 years and love being a part of the college atmosphere every Fall! It's been a fun mother-son activity to share.
Right now I am taking it day by day as I adjust to widowhood...unsure what I want to do with the rest of my life. There are no guidelines for this part of one's journey!
I was sorry to hear that North is no more...no red, white, and blue; no Panthers. Who would have thought! I am writing this addendum to my profile as of July 1, 2014...I still have the same same job; my daughter has moved back to my area and is now divorced...I see my 4 year old grandson and her almost every day; my son still lives at home and finally has a tolerable job for now; life is still a challenge as a widow, but I have learned to go with the flow most days....can't say that aging is "the golden years" that my parents' generation told me it would be; and I'm sure life will continue to throw me a few curve balls just to keep me on my toes!!
