Melissa's Story
I'm still metal and a total nerd and just as quiet as I was in highschool.
I graguated and 3 months later had my son, Josh. I began community college in '89, thinking marketing/advertising career would suit me, but had to work full time to support myself and my son. We moved around So.Cal a few times, and eventually landed in the Coachella Valley.
With some biology/geology/archaeo classes under my belt (which I figured might land be a job illustrating science books) I found work for Agua Caliente Tribe's environmental protection office & got more interrested in prehistoric American archaeology.
I was married in '98, to a Sonora High School Football player, my younger sister introduced me to. I was nice for a moment, but not a very good idea. ontinued work in desert. My son went through rebelious stage in highschool (which was very disconcerting - withstanding piercings, bluehair, tagging, underage drinking) paybacks for my teenage years.
In '06, when the economy started getting bad I moved back to La Habra, Josh got a scholarship for Chico State and I joined the Army, but minor degeneration of my knee cartiledge held me back, so I returned to Agua Caliente and took a job working for the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership and later moved up to Idyllwild and partnered with my friend to work for her graphic design business.
Now I'm doing work for the community of Idyllwild - Josh is in Palm Springs - just down the hill and comes to visit me sometimes. Ironically - I'm doing marketing and advertising - helping with websites, printing and such. It's ok - but I'd rather do archaeology fulltime. Masters degree pending...
