Melissa's Story
Life
Returned to Vallejo in late 2004, just days before my father passed on. Have worked off and on but mostly off. Into writing and other creative activites.
Retired after 30 years with Solano County Health and Social Services 2000, working in many different positions as a mid-manger. Even worked for the State Department of Social Services on loan for four years.
Moved to Flagstaff, AZ, in 2000 to be with a long time partner. Loved the pace of a smaller town, even through it had an University, major Museum (of the Colorado Plateau or Four Corner area) and was just far enough away from Phoenix basin to have clean mountain air (7000 feet) with three peaks overshadowing the area (13000 feet) and snow!!! I worked for Coconino County Parks and Recreation doing the county fair and horse races, quite a departure from what I did most of my life and I loved it. The relationship ended after being in Flag for a couple of years and I bought a great little house and stayed on for another 18 months. But home and my family was calling me back to the Vallejo area.
I am single but my family is close by. I have three adult sons, all in relationships. I am the grandmother of Nolen, 8, born on my birthday, Ethan, 5, born three days after my birthday, and Gavin, 7 months, and Kyra, also 7 months, as of April 2008. Kyra is the f...Expand for more
irst female born in three generations and we think she's pretty special. And I loved being the mother of three sons, so my grandsons are wonderful additions to our family. I take care of Gavin part-time and he's a delight.
My best friends are five women from Vallejo/Fairfield area who have been there through thick and thin and who are like sisters and who worked at the County for far too long as I did. I live with my full time companion is a crazy little black and white cat that could be taken for Slyvester! He's a nut case some days and just a lover others. We have a great place overlooking the Carquinez straits and bridge. The view breathtaking.
My not so secret wish is to go to Ireland for several months while writing. Writing has always been my second love, next to reading. I think there is something in Ireland I am supposed to connect with in the meantime I am writing and reading....books and more books.
Recently met Dr. Wayne Dyer, which was a thrill after having followed his lectures (I appear briefly in the audience of one of his PBS specials, reacting to something that especially touched me) and read his books for several years. I am still full of curiosity and always learning more. Love the North Coast and have my home in Mendocino picked out. Just need to get a book published so I can buy it!!
