Melody's Story

There have been quite a few changes going on here in Oregon! All the Stone girls are out of college. Yahoo! Adrianna is still In Eugene working for the U of O club sport office, Alison is living in Portland & working for her dad in Lake Oswego while Amanda is in Seattle doing research for the VA. Mike is staying too busy at his private accounting practice with plans to retire soon (who can say 70?!) so hopefully he makes it that long!! Melody (who finally, after 35 years being deaf) had cochlear surgery in 2015 & loving the hearing life which has made her new travel much easier. She is the new NW coordinator for Creating Friendships for Peace (CFP) & getting to visit Cyprus whenever the air miles allow!! Life is great in 2019 & it’s getting better every year I get to Be here! Enjoy life & try to Keep smiling no matter what is going on at the White House 🤪🤗! December 2014 Our oldest (Amanda) is now in Florida (Gainesville) working on another degree. We had a good trip delivering her in August and got to see her new apartment & meet her roommates She will be there 5 years and then we'll see where she lands. Alison & Adrianna are thriving in Eugene (what other option did they have with mom & dad both being Ducks?!) but are looking forward to being done summer 2016. Mike & I are enjoying the empty-nest adventure (although the girls ion Eugene aren't gone long enough for us to get too familiar with them being gone~!). We enjoyed having my dad here for his 80th b-day before he headed off for a cruise with my brother & his kids over the Christmas holiday. We're hoping 2015 brings lots of family time as we deal with my mom's passing in July 2014. Many ups & downs this past year (Mom's passing, Mike's sister passing in April, my sister getting married on July 2nd and Amanda starting grad school- but we are learning that family is #1 and how precious our time together really is. Have a great 2015 & stop by Tigard any time you are in the area. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moving right along now that we're into 2013! My oldest daughter (Amanda) just graduated from Oregon State on June 15th (with a degree in Bio-engineering) & will be moving to Bend in late July to work at the new Oregon State University Medical clinic there. It's unpaid but it will be experience which is what the grad schools want. She'll be getting a paying job to fill in her 'open' hours. The other great news for our family is that my other daughters (Alison & Adrianna) who had spent their freshman year at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction have decided to come back to Oregon & are in the process if filling out applications & trying to get transferred before the deadlines. It looks good for us to have both of them back in Oregon for this school year. I haven't found a job but am still looking and Mike seems to still be able to keep them all happy (sometimes that has harder than it should've been!). Mike & I are happy to finally have all the girls in college (isn't that a milestone in itself?) and are enjoying their college stories (of which Mike is more than happy to add his own adventures to). We are enjoying the empty-nest stage of child-rearing but haven't had too much of it since Amanda has come home pretty often during her last 3 years in Corvallis. Mike & I enjoy seeing them whenever we can but will make the trip to Eugene whenever we need this fall (whether for football games or apartment decorating). Stay happy & enjoy the ride! Please don't forget to stop by if you are in the area as there is always a cold Mikes lemonade in the frig for anyone who shows up on our doorstep & an empty bed in the spare bedroom for anyone that wants to stay a few days.. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Life in late 2009 UPDATE: It's almost Christmas and we hope that Amanda makes it home on the 21st (even though she is flying through Chicago!). My twins are sophomores in high school and our oldest has been in Syracuse for this year studying engineering but if planning to return to Oregon and enroll at Oreg...Expand for more
on State in the fall of 2010. It will be nice having her closer and we think she will be a lot warmer in the winters since we only get snow every few years unlike New york that gets it EVERY YEAR! We are doing well and are excited about heading to LA for the New Year and attending the Rose Bowl which the Oregon Ducks will be playing in against Ohio State. We're Ducks and my father is a Buckeye so it should be a good New Years Day. Everything is great for us and I had a fantastic time seeing lots of old friends in Vegas. Gotta get in shape for the cruise in a few years! Look me up if you are ever in the Portland area. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Life is pretty good in 2008. I have been married for 27 years to Mike Stone ('72 West high grad) and my oldest daughter will be going to college in the fall of 2009. I have twin daughters who are now 15 and looking forward to driving (that's scary for me since I remember how I drove in high school!). We're heading to Anchorage tomorrow night for Christmas with my family (still there after 38 years. They all say that they will never leave but I wouldn't either if the state paid me a few thousand $$ a year to live in the state...) We're looking forward to a truly white Christmas and seeing as many friends as possible while we are there. If any one is around give me a call. My parents are listed in the phone book. After I graduated in 1978 I decided to start college at Portland State (to play volleyball) but left after one quarter to come back to Alaska. After putting in a year and a half at UAA I left again to go back to Oregon to the University of Oregon. While at UO I met my future husband, Mike Stone, fellow Alaskan (West High, class of 72) at a college bar on Halloween 1981. We got engaged on New Year's day 1982 and married in September of that year. I now live in Tigard, Oregon and I have 3 children, all girls, ages 15 and 12(twins). My husband, Mike Stone is a CPA/Atty with his own practice in Lake Oswego. I am a stay at home mom since my first child came 16 years ago this November. We travel when we can (Cancun, Hawaii, lots of Disneyworld adventures) and get back to Alaska about once every year or so. We go back to see Alaska because it's so beautiful but also because my entire family is still there meaning uncles, aunts and other relatives (that my girls don't have in the lower 48). We are looking forward to celebrating our 24th anniversary this September and are hoping for many years ahead of us. Please send me a note through classmates if you would like. Melody (McKean) Stone- Class of 78 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: December 2, 2007 Thought it was time to add a few lines about the last few years- I am still married to Mike Stone, West High Class of 72, we hit the 25 year mark this September but didn't make it to Australia because our twins (Alison & Adrianna-13 years old) used the money to go to Italy with their class from Middle School (Junion high here in Oregon). They had a great time on their tour of Italy (the whole country in 10 days!!) so Mike and I took 3 days to go to Seattle and the Olympic Peninsula for our 25th anniversary. Our oldest daughter, Amanda is 17, in high school thinking about engineering as a career (but she's looking at Oregon State University which is hard for her mom and dad who are die-hard Oregon fans, oh well, as long as she goes to college somewhere we can't really complain too loudly, right?!) We love our girls and are very proud of what they have done and accomplished in just the few years since they were born. We are all happy and very healthy with few complaints and now have the time to travel and see some things we hadn't gotten around to yet. Once the kids get out of college (Okay that's 10 years from now!!) we will be ready to start globe-trotting and SEE THE WORLD! I look forward to seeing anyone who can make the next reunion gathering (whenever that is) and wish you all much happiness and success until then. Happy Holidays and have a great 2008.
