Merlin's Story
After graduating from High School I went on and graduated from Spring Arbor Jr College in 1954. My first job was working for City Bank and Trust Co in Jackson. After 3 years I got restless and left the banking business and joined Aeroquip Corp. where I spent the next 32 years taking early retirement in 1989. In 1965 I returned to Spring Arbor College taking night courses and graduated with a BA degree in1970. At Aeroquip I was the Aerospace Division Controller for over 20 years which included 5 plants in the USA and plants in England, France, and Germany. we built a new Fire Hall as well as a Senior Center. The Senior Center was 100% funded by a Community Development Block Grant which I was able to get.
In retirement we (Elaine Boadway Goldsmith and I) spend summers at our cottage at Farwell Lake which is 12 miles from Spring Arbor and winters at Light & Life Park in Lakeland, Florida where I am currently serve as vice president.
My hobby is collecting old toys and antique cars, however I am down to one antique car at the present time. Elaine collects dolls and is a quilter and has several sewing machines including a collection of toy sewing machines.
