Merrill's Story
After graduating from Cheltenham & Alternative East, I went to work with my father at his dry cleaning store. He died suddenly in September of 1972 & I decided to return to school. I graduated from Montco & then enrolled in Phila College of Art with a major in printmaking.
The summer of 1977, I got a job in a small printshop in Oak Lane and ink got into my blood.
I escaped Philly that fall for Los Angeles and Venice Beach where I became a partner in a printing collective, Peace Press. We printed anti war literature and alternative energy books, lots of rock concert & political stuff no other printer would touch. Oh yeah, I met my husband of 27 years, Brad, there. elling us printing paper.
We had our first daughter, Jaclyn in 1984, and decided we needed to raise her somewhere else. We left the big city for Northern CA to a town of 11,000 where we bought a small print shop with 2 employees. Twenty+ years later, we are still in the small Gold Country town of Auburn & have 17 employees(and a second daughter, Liz).
We love the Sierra Foothills and the splendor that they offer. I still have horses. I still experience the seasons but, not as drastically as Philly.
I spend what little free time I have trail riding with my husband, horse camping, and doing volunteer work with my local Soroptimist International group and local trails clubs.
